Shaft sinking by drill and blast

Chris Marley Tunnelling Ltd is experienced in shaft sinking by both jacked caisson and underpinning techniques in a variety of ground conditions for a variety of clients.

We have constructed shafts in rock utilising hydraulic breakers and transverse cutters to break out and trim the rock. In very hard rock we have also utilised drill and blast techniques.

We have jacked caisson shafts in wet sands and gravels as well as soft cohesive soils.

A combination of shaft sinking techniques is often used where the jacked caisson is started in loose ground or clay, then when ground becomes more solid the underpinning technique is used to continue.
